CONTINOUS IMPROVEMENT LEADER

The Continuous Improvement Leader will be based out of Toronto, Ontario (1551 Weston Road, M6M 4Y4). Reporting to the Continuous Improvement Manager, this position will be a functional lead in areas that directly impact Business Improvement and Operational Excellence initiatives and will provide tactical direction and operational oversight. This is a permanent, full-time position.

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or relevant discipline
- 5-7 years in a C.I. role
- 3-5 years in a position of influence
- Green Belt or Black Belt
- Strong influencing, coaching & facilitation skills, ideally with formal coaching training
- Complex problem-solving & conflict-resolution skills
- Project management skills
- Proven ability to demonstrate the application of risk assessment to operations and activities.
- Excellent incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
- Knowledge of Process Safety fundamentals.
- Experience with Minitab / Sigma XL and association six sigma statistical tools
The main duties/responsibilities of this role include:
- Ensures safety is at the forefront of every project and initiative
- Assists in promoting/developing a safety-first culture, through development of new/improved health and safety guidelines and encouraging peer-to-peer feedback
- Supports safety policies and procedures and is responsible for taking appropriate steps when not followed
- Leads the three-year cost and strategic plan by communicating opportunities for improvement initiatives, cost savings and updating the site initiative hopper
- Leads and manages C.I. meetings, documents clear actions and enables timeline achievement, and assists with corporate C.I. vision, alignment and strategy
- Prepares monthly scorecards reports; drives and influences best results of monthly reports
- Contributes to the Irving 'belt' training program, and handles in-house training on C.I. tools and methodologies, including Lean Six Sigma processes and Irving Management Systems
- Responsible to manage the budget
- Utilizes process data to drive fact driven strategies to improve equipment efficiencies
- Guiding the business on improving Irving Management System and leading annual Irving Management System assessment
- Lead 5S program for the site
- Acts as a continuous improvement champion
- Ensures that the initiatives are aligned to support delivery of the site's vision, purpose, and strategy
- Actively updates and promotes cost reduction plan for their department
- Assists managers in identifying gaps and assist in department improvements and operating decisions
- Develops, maintains and enhances the 3 year OGSIM plan
- Promote standard work within the departments
- Ensure key communication is delivered and standard across operations
- Anticipates and mitigates issues that could impact morale
- Coaches and provides guidance on sites RCFA program
- Through coaching, training, communicating, problem solving, leadership and recognition, develops a focus for others in creating and maintaining a good environment that includes proper interpretation and application of company policies, as well as legal and regulatory compliance
- Accountable to develop, assess and strategically mentor talent
